Arizona also has lagged the U.S. when one compares earnings on a per-employee basis.  The inflation-adjusted figures (stated in 2010 dollars) were about $1,000 apart in 1970.  By 2010, the gap had grown to $4,000.

Employees reached their collective high point in 2006.  The average U.S. worker was paid $52,800 that year and the average Arizona worker made $49,500.
